Practical Solutions to Machinery and Maintenance Vibration Problems
Chapter 10, Gear Vibration
Section 5, Gear Alignment
The writer has not experienced vibration problems due to gear misalignment. Yet, it does exist. It is expected that the vibration at 2 x rpm would be higher than normal for such a situation. It has been suggested that machinists dye the teeth "Prussian Blue," Dychem, or even red; put a different color on each of the mating gears; run the gears for a few minutes, and "record" the wear pattern that can then be picked up with transparent adhesive tape and transferred to paper.
